Guess I'll spend a little time talking about Multi-Level Marketing and the Telecommunications
Industry. I'm currently an Independent Sales Agent with Commission River. The road to Commission River was very bumpy, full of curves and had several detours.
About 12 years
ago a neighbor recruited me to join Exel Communications, I had absolutely no experience with MLM or Telecommunications.
He said not to worry, I could market Exel's long distance product and recruit friends, co-workers, relatives, etc into
this great business opportunity and make a lot of money. What a crock! The long distance products were not competitive.
I became my own customer, and I did get a couple of other folks to make the long distance switch away from AT&T.
But it was a very hard sell. What was even harder was the recruiting end, try talking someone out of $500 or $600, that's
what it took to get started in this business, it's not easy, and many people saw this opportunity as a pyramid scheme.
I lasted about 8 months with Exel.
While on line in an AOL forum I found another telecommunications company that
was free to join, had no dues, paid commissions on your sales and the sales of those in your downline, down to about 5 levels.
You only got paid if you or your downline made sales. Sounded pretty good. The company was GCMI a very small reseller
based in Utah. Telecommunication products were competitive, when I first joined long distance was 11.9 cents a minute,
and that was a good deal. I eventually had a downline of about 10 others and was making enough to keep my head above
water. I stayed with GCMI was about 6 years and got out only when the owner closed shop to pursue a career in the Soy
Candle Industry. (I followed him into the Soy candle business, but that's a whole other story).
When GCMI was in the process of closing down, I joined Cognigen. Another
MLM Telecommunications company that was free to join and offered competitively priced producs. I've been with Cognigen
about 6 years. Cognigen was bought by Commission River early this year, so I'm now an Agent with Commission River.
My telecommunications business slipped a bit when I devoted a lot of time and energy to the Soy Candle business. I'm
now out of that business and attempting to grow the Commission River business.
Commission River seems like a very good company. The compensation package is very good, product
lines are growing and there seems to be ample opportunity to grow this business. If you have time take a look at Commission River and think about becoming a productive member of Commission River and TheSmall Team.
