Cycle Oregon Ride

September 5-14, 2008

Nashbar

The ride starts Sept. 6 and goes through Sept. 13th.  I take Rosemary to the airport on Sept. 2 for her Journey For Women Italy trip.  She gets back on Sept. 18th so I have to be home then, to get her at the airport.

I'll probably head off to Roseville and Patrick's on the 3rd, my 71th birthday is the 4th.  So this will be a good birthday celebration.  I'm looking forward to this bicycle ride.

This should be a fun time.  I'm riding this with Joe, a friend from Portland, he's did this ride last year, he didn't want to do it alone this year, so I "volunteered" to ride with him.  Our friend Patrick will "sag" for us, he has a pop-up trailer.  Pat will set up camp at each staging area, meet us at parts of the route for water, dry clothes, etc.  He will be a great help.

This ride is sponcored by the Cycle Oregon group, they've held this ride for more than 20 years, take a look at the Cycle Oregon web site for more information about the group and this year's route.

After the Oregon Coast ride in May, I purchased a new road bike.  My Cannondale was more than 20 years old.  It's given me wonderful service, but it needed modifications.  After talking to Chuck at Dublin Cyclery we decided to purchase a new Fuji.  Got it last month, now have about 500 miles on it, need to get in 500 more to get ready for the Cycle Oregon ride.  I love the Fuji.

I made some changes to the Cannondale, purchased a back rack, bag, headlight and taillight from Bike Nasbar.  I now use that bike to get around town on errands, attend Pleasanton Rotary club meetings, get a haircut and stuff like that.  It's a very nice bike and still serves me well.

More about the Cycle Oregon Ride as it happens.
